The complete guide to car subscription
Rent or buy? Lease or… well, what other alternatives are there for owning a car in Dubai? Fortunately, there's a new kid on the block, and it's proving to be super-popular with customers who want a flexible, affordable way to rent a car long-term. It's called car subscription, and it's taking off in a big way.
What is car subscription?
Instead of taking out a single contract for a fixed term (as in a standard leasing agreement), a car subscription gives you the flexibility to change your arrangement to suit your needs. This mobility service gives you an all-inclusive package. You choose the vehicle (whether it’s a nippy little run-around or a top-of-the-range SUV), and you'll get everything except the gas thrown in. That's insurance, servicing and maintenance, and breakdown cover all taken care of by MOOV by Al-Futtaim.
That sounds just like renting, though…
With renting, you have to take what you can get. With a car subscription, you can change your package as and when it suits you. Need a bigger car for a couple of months? Not a problem. Want to downsize to make sure you can squeeze into a city parking spot? Easy. And the longer you subscribe, the better deals you get. How many other rental services reward you that much for your loyalty without tying you down?
Monthly car rental in Dubai is often limited to set periods. With a subscription, you can arrange long-term car rental of up to 18 months. Or just a month, depending on your circumstances. Your subscription is renewed every 30 days, and unlike some car rent arrangements, your price won't go up. At MOOV by Al-Futtaim, we don't believe in surprises – unless they're good ones!
What about toll fees and fines?
If you incur any toll fees or traffic fines, they'll be deducted from your account on a monthly basis. So you don't need to worry about sorting them out yourself - leave it to MOOV by Al-Futtaim. You will have to pay your own parking fees, though.
What if I change my mind about a car subscription?
That would make us sad, but if you need to cancel, give us 24 hours' notice before your vehicle is handed over, and then there’s no charge.
What documents do I need?
We keep things simple with a subscription. You’ll need a valid Emirates ID, a valid UAE driving licence (Category 3 Manual or Automatic) that you’ve held for at least a year, and a credit card.
That Emirates ID card is a must-have to be able to take out a subscription, even if your ID is being renewed. And if you’ve had a driving licence in another country, you’ll need to have held it for at least two years.
What kind of car rental do I get?
Take your pick! At MOOV by Al-Futtaim, we've got some of the most popular car models on offer that are just right for life in the UAE. And if you want to change your vehicle, you can swap at the end of a subscription month, as long as you're all paid up when it comes to things like toll charges.
What can’t you do in a subscription car?
There are a few things that you won’t be able to do with a MOOV car subscription vehicle. But these are almost identical to the restrictions you encounter when renting a car in Dubai from other providers. So you can't:
- Sub-let or use it as a hire & reward taxi
- Drive it through waterlogged streets or off-road tracks
- Use it to tow trailers
- Carry hazardous or strong-smelling cargo
- Drive while drunk or under the influence of drugs
- Drive outside the UAE unless agreed in writing
But let’s not think about what you can’t do – let’s focus on what you can. Subscription car services allow you to choose how you arrange your car rental. They're more flexible and customer-focused, giving you greater freedom to enjoy the open road in a car you like. And if you change your mind, that's okay – MOOV by Al-Futtaim is here to help you find your new favourite vehicle with a selection of top models.
