Coast to coast – Dubai to Kalba
If you want to do the full Thelma & Louise road trip but you need to be back at work on Monday, the coast-to-coast route from Dubai to Kalba is the ideal choice. Just 133km long, it takes you through some genuinely spectacular scenery, and there are plenty of excuses to stop along the way. Stop off halfway at the archaeological site of Mleiha in the heart of Sharjah, and you'll find out all about our Iron Age ancestors. There's also a great hike to Fossil Rock to stretch your legs. Your overnight stop is at Kalba for a spot of luxury glamping or a cosy night in a hotel.
Dubai to Buraimi, Oman
With an overnight stop at the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Al Ain Oasis, this is also ideal for a weekend trip. You're covering around 150km, but the scenery makes you feel like you're going on a real adventure. Your stop-over is an oasis filled with nearly 150,000 date palms, a sprinkling of forts, and tons of accommodation, including five-star hotels. A guided hike through the Buraimi region of Oman is a must, where you'll clamber up the fabulous Hajar mountain range or explore limpid pools and delightful oases. This trip lets you get to grips with the majesty of the region's mountains.
Abu Dhabi to Muscat
Pack a bit more and get ready for an epic trip from capital to capital, covering nearly 500km. This doozy of a road trip is a good few days’ worth of exploring, with plenty of stops along the way and the chance to discover so much about the UAE's culture, history and character. You can do a five-hour sprint along the E22 and do the whole journey in a day, but where's the fun in that? Our tip is to stop overnight in Al Ain, and take a few detours to explore sights like the Grand Mosque in Muscat, the Bimmah Sinkhole, and the gorgeous Hawiyat Najim Park.

These road trips are easy to do as they all use major roads.
